Broken (Animus Industries) From the makers of Melbourne’s Breaking The Fall CD compilation comes Broken, a DVD showcasing heavy music from emerging and established Australian artists. Almost every capital city is represented by the ten acts featured, indicating the nation’s love of all things heavy from shore to shore. Brisbane’s The Butterfly Effect kick things off with flying cars and energetic live images in the short, sharp and frantic One Second of Insanity.

Next up is Alice Springs’ NoKTuRNL with their late 90’s fist-pumper, NevaMend. A mean looking and mean sounding tune with a chorus that’ll never get old. Yeah? Yeah. Its inclusion is relevant, seeing as though they’ve just made a welcome return to Australia’s heavy scene... Also relevant is Lifetime by heavy band of the moment Karnivool, who are currently riding the wave of their break-through albumThemata... Retaliate by Adelaide’s Mark of Cain is the most brutal and graphic of the bunch. The audio and visual production is a step above the rest...

Extra features include bios on each band and some ferocious clips from Norwegian black metal bands Chton, Keep of Kalessin and Pantera-like FortyTwo. However, the major accomplishment of Broken is dishing up a healthy serve of metal and heavy rock from a wide range of Australian bands both old and new. James Ridley
